What do you want reflected back to you?

Hi beautiful!

When I first got into personal development 20+ years ago, I remember reading somewhere that the people around you are mirrors of and for you. Say what? I honestly had no idea what this meant, and quite frankly I was a bit triggered by this statement. Mostly because at that time I was surrounded by people I wasn’t sure were the best fit for me, and what was being reflected back to me from them didn’t feel so great.

Ever since that time, I’ve become very aware of what is being reflected back to me from others. Frustration? Confidence? Resentment? Resistance? Lack mindset? Fear? Compassion? Generosity? Strength? Beauty? Purpose?

I’ve also become extremely clear on what I want reflected back to me.

Something I did after my divorce, when I found myself feeling alone and unwanted, was write out a list of the types of people I wanted to have in my life — their attributes, characteristics, and values. I made a promise to myself to number one: BE that type of person, and number two: to only attract those types of people into my life.

What you declare, really does manifest, because today, the people that are in my life are all amazing people who check off all the boxes I wrote on my list those many years ago.

It’s extremely rare for me to attract a not nice person into my life, and when I do, I ask myself, “Why?” “What is this person here to teach me?” “How am I acting in this not so nice way and what do I need to change about me?”

And with everyone else in my life — friends, family, clients, community members — I value the things they’re reflecting back to me so that I can keep developing, growing, and evolving as a person, entrepreneur, friend, coach, and leader.

Some reflections for you to consider:

  • What are the people in your life mirroring back to you? Why?

  • How can you use this to grow as a person?

  • What do you want to be reflected back to you and how can you step into being this person first?

These aren’t easy questions to contemplate. But if you’re willing to sit with the discomfort, the value of the deep inner work is immeasurable and will directly impact your business and your life.

And you are so worth it!

Love, Vera 💛
