Is over-thinking stopping you?
Hi beautiful!
Let’s talk about overthinking.
While thinking is awesome, OVERthinking leads to stalling, or just plain stopping the momentum altogether.
I got out for my first mountain bike ride of the season earlier this week and was reminded just how easy it is to get out of flow and into overthinking, which in the case of me and my mountain bike means I’m stopped dead at the top of a hill going nowhere.
Do you ever feel like this in your solopreneur business? One minute you’re moving, feeling good, and taking action, and then something comes up that makes you stop.
What are those “somethings” that make you stop? In my experience, it’s usually:
a voice in your head that questions or second-guesses your expertise
comparing yourself to someone you see on Instagram
a potential client saying ‘no’
wanting it to be “perfect”
not feeling “ready”
uncertainty about whether this will “work”
being worried about “what people will think”
not having clear goals or vision
having too many ideas and not knowing where to start
not “feeling like it”
Read through these again using your thinking (intellectual) mind. When you disconnect emotionally from these “reasons” it’s pretty clear that most of them are actually excuses, a form of self-sabotage, and/or a way for your subconscious mind to keep you small, stuck, and stopped.
Don’t let this happen! You and the service or product you offer through your business is needed!
It’s up to you to figure out how to get in flow, stay there, and how to get back on track when something stops you.
Here are a few suggestions that have worked for me and my clients:
Time blocking and following your calendar
Setting clear goals
Hiring a coach or accountability mentor
Knowing your energy rhythms and planning your days accordingly
Having a vision and purpose statement
Taking regular care of your body and mind
Listening to positive podcasts or audio books
Saying affirmations or mantras out loud
Moving your body - dancing, walking, exercising, stretching
Deciding how the best version of yourself would handle the situation
Surrounding yourself with uplifting and encouraging people
Disconnecting from the news and social media
Getting into nature, being quiet and still, tuning into your intuition
Asking for help from a coach, business bestie, or trusted advisor
Challenge yourself to do it messy, scared, and uncertain and then reward yourself
Of course I could go into each of these for hours - there’s a lot to unravel and rewire.
The truth is, you need to be honest with yourself about where you’re stopping and what excuse you’re letting yourself believe.
🌟 It’s also true that you are more SMART, BRAVE, BRILLIANT, and STRONG than you give yourself credit for. 🌟
Give yourself some extra love this weekend and reflect on these questions:
What excuse(s) do I believe about the things that stop me in my business?
Write down 5 adjectives describing how you want to show up in your business this month.
Write down the biggest obstacle or challenge stopping you in your business right now.
How would the best version of you handle this challenge?
I BELIEVE IN YOU!!
Love, Vera 💛
